Today I am grateful for warm, fuzzy slippers that provide comfort and warmth from the ground up. Anything that can instantly warm the body on a cold day AND bring inner warmth to my soul is welcome.

Today I am grateful for chocolate. Just something a little sweet in an otherwise bitter day. Something to lift my spirits, put a smile on my face, and some sweetness on my tastebuds. It’s a little, gentle, inner hug for the senses.

Today I am grateful for creativity, which allows me to come up with solutions to everyday problems, see things from different perspectives, and express myself in artistic ways. I am truly blessed to have my own unique talents and gifts that I can share with others.

Coming to Our Senses: A Presentation by Jon Kabat-Zinn

Jon Kabat-Zinn is a pioneer in bringing Buddhist practices to the western world. Mindfulness practice is becoming more mainstream in the medical and mental health fields. In fact, I am currently being trained in his Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) techniques, finding I’ve already been using many of these techniques with clients for years and now have more to offer. This work is important. It is about awareness, “falling awake” as Kabat-Zinn would say. Be prepared for about an hour-long presentation, so get comfortable and enjoy!

Love After Love by Derek Walcott

The time will come

when, with elation

you will greet yourself arriving

at your own door, in your own mirror

and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.

Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,

peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit. Feast on your life.

Today I am grateful for opportunities. It can sometimes be difficult to see opportunities in times of turmoil, but there is always a lesson to be learned from every situation. The gift we can give ourselves is the time and space to simply just notice.

Gratitude Journal: Day 12

Today I am grateful for flexibility, which can come in many forms – time, thinking, physicality, etc. To be flexible is to understand that change is constant and we are all together in this dance of life…moving around and adjusting ourselves to the rhythm of others.
